Interior looks particularly dirty given the miles....engine bay slathered in Armor All...rust on the strut tower bar. strut tower bolts seem to be different. Only reason to take that bar off is major engine service...one rad bracket is rusted one isn't...
Top seems to be replaced. Looks like it doesn't like to close all the way. Seems to not fit right around the drivers window as well.
That car gives me a bad vibe....don't know the asking, so can't say for sure if it's a good buy or not, but it does have some issues.

i don't have anything to add other than the inspection checklist.

Always remember, if you're not 100% confident walk away. There's always plenty more. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but there will always be another Miata. It is the most successful roadster ever built.

Given age/mileage timing belt should have been done already. If not budget for immediate replacement. It is a non-interference engine, but getting stranded sucks. Cosmetics are expensive on these cars - check top/interior/paint. Drive at least two before you buy one - this will help you identify mechanical issues. Even a bad one will seem ok depending on what you drive now.

good call. Any good way to check for flood damage minus looking for mold?

no idea. 60k miles shouldn't have worn that poorly

Not "enthusiast" owned. There's no excuse for an interior to be that dirty.

Hmm. all good points.
Have to cough up for a carfax i think. the quick version says accident reported. But dont know how long ago or what it entailed.
They want $7700 for it. 67,000 miles.

Hmmm...I would say price is high. It could just be a cosmetic neglect car, but it just gives me a bad feeling. The miles could be genuine if the previous owner never garaged it, and it sat for an extended period. It could also be hiding a lot if that's the case. Especially if it sat in the open with a bad top.
If you check it out, be mindful of things that are unevenly rusted or worn, or variations from one side of the car to the other. Check the areas of the underbody behind the doors and forward of the rear wheels for rust. That's where the 'drains' for the top lead. If those get clogged, water will collect. Sometimes enough will collect in the frame rails/drain areas that you can hear it sloshing around as you drive. I'm 3 for 3 on clogged drains and water sloshing with the Miatas I've bought, but I'm in southern California, so even with that kind of neglect they don't rust and you just need to clean them out. If you can, look at it right after a rain. That's the best way to see any convertible. Also, if you can pull back the carpet around the back edge of the top, see what the drain rail looks like, and look for any corrosion. Also feel the carpet behind both seats. If it's damp, it's hiding more.

Looks like it was owned by a filthy mechanic with sandpaper for skin.

I'm no expert but look for dirt and filth where there shouldn't be any. Also a water line if you can find one. I've owned dirtier cars with no flood history do don't jump to conclusions.

If it's not going to be a daily driver and you're planning on tracking it, don't spend money to get a mostly good-looking car. You can find NBs for many kilobucks less.

Well, it's got the LSD...... and some open recalls, and ZERO dealer history. That's all I can tell from the VIN anyways.
Also looks like it was a program car of some sorts. There is no selling dealer, and no owner listed.
